Doddler Update 13th May 2021
Hello Doddlers this month brings the return to “normal” club activities, it will be good to see you all back on the Dorset trails and roads.
Summer Runs resume on Tuesday 18th May 1845 for a 1900 start from the Cricketers at Shroton, the second run on the 25th is from the Crown at Marnhull, a full schedule can be seen on the Summer Run page .The Covid regulations require that we keep a register of participants for now, social distancing should still be adhered to. With the start of summer runs the hill sessions at Shaftesbury have finished until the autumn.
Thursday night training continues in Sturminster with a 1900 meet at the sorting office, come along and improve your running with club coach Ian Pollard. These sessions are geared for all members from the speedy to the more pedestrian and will really help you to achieve your goals.
We have a busy schedule of club championship races and other internal club events over the summer starting with
The Broad Oak Hilly on Thursday the 20th May, 1900 start from the bottom of Broad oak hill by the Bull. To get a time for this race you need to be there on the day no virtual times will be accepted.
The Suzy Viv hill climb is on the 10th June from Okeford Fitzpaine, further details will follow.
The Pubeck 10K will be run as an internal club race on Friday the 18th June, further details will follow but again to get a time for the club champs and Keith Vine Trophy you will need to be there on the day, no virtual times will be accepted.
The John Deacon handicap on the 24th June from Hinton, more details to follow.
The Marnhull 12k is an internal club race with a social afterwards on the 22nd July.
Membership renewals were due on the 1st April, thank you to all of you who have paid your fees and welcome to our new members. If you haven’t paid now is the time, all those who haven’t renewed will be removed from our mailing list, members Facebook page and Strava page shortly.
Club Kit is back in stock and available at £15 for a T shirt or a vest, contact Dave Hurst on 07739 537554, you can pay in cash or by BACS using the club account but please make sure the item you require is in stock before doing so and give your name as a reference.
Summer Camp is being held to coincide with the Dorset Invader frolic and half marathon / 10K being held at Longburton, Sherborne on the August bank holiday weekend of the 28th – 30th. Entries to the events and camping bookings are at Full on Sport https://whitestar.fullonsport.com/event/dorset-invader-frolic-sherborne/profile
It is possible to book camping alone if you do not wish to participate in the races, there will be on site catering, bar, toilet and showers along with a dedicated Doddler area.
Wessex Ridgeway is being run on the 11th July, there are 7 Doddler teams entered, Ines is still looking for two ladies to run in her team and Shams is looking for runners in his team.

We are also looking for a couple of volunteers to assist with marshalling at the road crossings, if you can help with this please get in touch with Ian Pollard at email@example.com .
The Sturminster Newton Half (Stur Half) and 5K are being held on the 8th August, entries will open shortly. If as a Doddler you wish to run please ensure that you volunteer for a role before or after the race or persuade a friend or family member to volunteer during the race, we need your help to put on these events.
The Stickler is being held on 31st October, entries will open soon. As above we need your help to put on this event and would request that you volunteer for a role within the event organisation.

Dorset Doddlers Members FB Page / Club Strava Group
We are going to remove all members of these two groups who do not renew their club membership by the end of April 2021, access to the club social FB page remains free to all.There are also plans to have a members only section on the club website.If you are not a member of the club Strava page and wish to see what everyone is up to go to strava.com sign up for a free account, search for Dorset Doddlers in the club section and ask to join the club group.
It has been decided to award to additional trophies / awards at the end of each year as follows. The Chairmans Award will be awarded to a club member who has gone the extra mile during the year, whether that be an athletic achievement or organising a club / charity event etc. Nominations will be requested and the committee will chose who they consider to be the best nomination.The Dodo Award will be an award for the member who manages to make the biggest blooper of the year, again nominations will be requested and the lucky winner chosen by the committee.
Couch to 5K
Hopefully none of you as members of the Doddlers feel the need to join this new initiative though if you wish to help Paul Russell run the course he will be grateful for any offers. The course will start on Monday 31st May and will run for ten weeks with the intention that the participants graduate by running the 5K race held in conjunction with the Stur Half on the 8th August. If you have partners, relatives, friends who want to get into running please encourage them to join the team, full details will be posted on the club website soon and a dedicated FB page is planned.
