Doddler Update 29th March 2021
Lots of news to report this month as we all emerge blinking back into the daylight hopefully post COVID restrictions. All of the dates given below are dependent on the restrictions being eased as per the government’s roadmap out of lockdown, should the government amend the easing dates then we will amend the various dates below accordingly.
Shaftesbury Hill sessions resume on Tuesday 30th March, meeting in the Kings Arms carpark for a 18:45 departure. Shaftesbury hills will continue until May 11th this year due to the restrictions in uncoached running group sizes delaying the commencement of the summer run season. Thursday Night training resumes on the 1st April, 19:00 at the sorting office Sturminster Newton. Please remember not to park on the industrial estate. Please note that training is to be held in a COVID safe environment and therefore a register of participants will be kept and we request that you socially distance and carry a face covering (in case you have to aid another runner) during each session.
Summer runs will commence on Tuesday the 18th May, if you are willing to host a summer run please get in touch with Adam or Lynda. A full schedule will be announced in due course.
There was a fantastic uptake of 37 Doddlers for the Virtual half Marathon in February, some great times and well done to all of you who got out there and put yourself through 21K on your own. The Club championship continues in March with a virtual 10K, must start and end in the same place to rule out elevation differences. As a result of the restrictions on running group size and the requirement to minimise travel the schedule of internal club races has been revised as follows.
• The Broad Oak Hilly Thursday 20th May
• The Suzy Viv Thursday 10th June
• The John Deacon handicap Thursday 24th June
• The Purbeck 10K as an internal club race in June (date to be confirmed)
• The Wessex Ridgeway relay 11th July
• The Marnhull 12K also as an internal club run on the 22nd July.
• The Stur Half is now planned for the 8th August
• The Stickler 31st October
• The duathlon has been dropped for now though could be run later in the summer.
Sunday Club Runs
We intend to hold one Sunday club run per month of about 10- 14 Miles open to Doddlers of all abilities (no one will be left behind) starting May. Craig White will be the coordinator for this and details for each months run will be posted on FB and the club website. If you want to organise a run please get in touch with Craig, runs can be road or trail. Which Sunday the runs are held on will be fluid to try and avoid clashing with races etc. Of course we also encourage members to post runs they are planning and open to all on the further Sundays of the month on the club FB page.
Club Summer Social
It is planned to hold a club social after the running of the Marnhull 12K on 22nd July, all members and families will be welcome regardless of whether they run the race. We hope to have a Pizza van onsite, if that fails then we will have a Bar-B-Que

Couch to 5K
Hopefully none of you as members of the Doddlers feel the need to join this new initiative though if you wish to help Paul Russell run the course he will be grateful for any offers. The course will start on Monday 31st May and will run for ten weeks with the intention that the participants graduate by running the 5K race held in conjunction with the Stur Half on the 8th August. If you have partners, relatives, friends who want to get into running please encourage them to join the team, full details will be posted on the club website soon and a dedicated FB page is planned.
