Doddling Update September 2020
The latest UK Government and England Athletic advice is that there is NO change to running and athletic activities, therefore we will continue to run and train. Please note that when attending any Doddler activity it is important that social distancing is followed, before, during and after the activity, carry a mask in case you or a fellow club member are injured and it is necessary to give or receive assistance when social distancing is not possible. A register of runners will be kept for each event / race by the organiser to assist should track and trace be required, lastly please don’t attend Doddler activities if you are feeling unwell or should be self isolating.
The nights are drawing in so this Tuesday the 15th September will be our last summer run and we will be returning to Shaftesbury Hills and Sturminster training sessions, details below.
For all of our sessions whether its Shaftesbury Hills or Sturminster training we welcome runners of all abilities, we will not leave anyone behind, there will always be options for those who don’t want to or feel unable to complete the full session plus we will designate a back marker to make sure that no one is left alone.
This run will be from Stourpaine, route master Lynda Faulkner meet 1815 for a 1830 start, exact meeting point and routes to be advised soon.
Gold Hill Reccy Thursday 17th September
We will be holding an internal club race over the Gold Hill 10K route in September (see below) so for any who want to check out most of the route we will have a social trot around the majority of the course on Thursday the 17th September meeting at 1815 for 1830 start at the top car park in Shaftesbury (SP7 8JZ). Route master Dave Jackson. You may want to bring your head torch for this one as it will be pretty dark in the unlit lanes towards the end of the run.
Shaftesbury Hill Sessions Tuesday 22nd September and each week thereafter
Back by popular demand is the weekly Shaftesbury hill session, route master Paul Russell, we will meet in the top car park at Shaftesbury at 1830 for a 1845 start, we may not do the regular hills course every week but when we do its 7 hills 220m of vertical climb and a big smile when you finish. Come along whatever your fitness / ability we regroup at the bottom or top of each hill throughout the run.
Sturminster Training Thursday 24th September and each week thereafter
We return to our regular weekly training sessions with the session being set by club coach Ian Pollard. As we are unable to utilise the facilities at Sturfit at this time we will meet warmed up at the sorting office (DT10 1AZ Butts Pond ) on the industrial estate at 1900 each week. Please do NOT park on the industrial estate as we want it car free to run on. Suggested parking places are at Sturfit or the car park at the Trailway / station car park. If you are unsure exactly where the sorting office is please get in touch and we will sort you out.

Innes will organising a head torch run from Sherborne on the 6th October, this will replace Shaftesbury Hills for this date. Further details to follow.

Internal Club Races
Gold Hill 10K 27th September
First up will be the Gold Hill 10K on Sunday 27th September start time and exact start location to be confirmed. We will provide details on the registration procedure and start time soon. For those of you who haven’t run this iconic race it’s a 10K course taking in Gold Hill and few other worse hills in the lanes around Shaftesbury, this is not a PB course!
The Stickler date TBC but it will be in October.
The famous Stickler will be run on either 11th or 25th of October, for those haven’t run the course it’s a 10 mile trail run over the three Dorset peaks of Okeford, Ham and Hambledon hills. Details of registration etc will follow.
Both races will be timed and count for club championship points but you can of course treat both events as a social run, we would love to see as many socially distanced Doddlers out there as we possibly can.
Club Membership Secretary
Lastly we are looking for a volunteer to take on the role of club membership secretary, the role essentially involves maintaining the Doddler membership list on the England Athletics (EA) Portal and making sure that the requisite fees are paid to EA for competitive members. It doesn’t require any amazing computer or spreadsheet skills and assistance will be given to get you up and running. If you are interested in taking on this role and helping with the administration of the club please get in touch with me either on firstname.lastname@example.org or have a chat on one of the club runs.
